Course Description: The Emerging Leaders one-day course is a practical, interactive programme designed to equip new and aspiring leaders with the core skills, mindsets and confidence needed to lead effectively in today's complex environments. Covering foundations of modern leadership, self-awareness, communication, team dynamics, and decision-making, the course blends evidence-based concepts with hands-on exercises and real-world scenarios. Participants will strengthen their emotional intelligence, learn to navigate challenging conversations, and foster collaborative teamwork. The programme concludes with a personalised action plan, ensuring each participant leaves with clear next steps for their leadership journey.

Description: The ISCoS PT and OT Affiliated Delivery Groups will host a joint pre-conference workshop in Kuala Lumpur in October 2026, centred on the theme “From Function to Community Integration.”

The morning programme provides a joint overview of functional expectations and rehabilitation, covering gait and functional mobility expectations in incomplete spinal cord injury, tetrahand surgery, and the link between injury level, AIS classification and SCIM scoring. Additional sessions address shoulder preservation, wheelchair positioning, and postural assessment.

In the afternoon, the OT and PT tracks run in parallel. The OT sessions examine return to parenting, social participation, work and study reintegration, and assessment of the tetraplegic hand. The PT sessions focus on pain, interventions for muscle contraction, and core stability. The final joint sessions explore transcutaneous spinal stimulation and include a panel discussion on clinical experiences.

Description: This full-day programme brings together dietitians, nurses, clinicians, occupational therapists, researchers and wider MDT colleagues to explore practical and research-focused topics in spinal cord injury care.

The programme includes dedicated sessions on nutrition, interdisciplinary working with the wider MDT, and nursing-focused topics including pressure injury prevention, bowel and bladder management, ageing with SCI and community transition care.

Description: Over the past decade, the epidemiology of SCI has undergone important changes. Shifts in demographics, mobility patterns, advances in injury prevention strategies and survival after trauma have altered the distribution of injury mechanisms and risk profiles in many regions of the world. In particular, aging populations and the growing contribution of fall-related injuries are transforming the landscape of SCI.

This half-day pre-conference workshop will examine how SCI epidemiology has evolved over the past ten years and explore the drivers behind these changes. Through presentations and expert discussion, participants will review global and regional trends in SCI incidence and causes, consider demographic and societal factors shaping injury risk, and reflect on how these patterns may influence prevention priorities in the coming decade. The session aims to provide a broader epidemiological perspective to inform future research, policy, and prevention efforts.

A limited number of rooms at an exclusive rate have been reserved for delegates at the Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur by Shangri-La, which is directly connected to the meeting venue.
