Peer-led community-based Active Rehabilitation approach: generating and translating evidence

Biography

I am a physiotherapist, PhD, Associate Professor (Docent) in neurological rehabilitation at Linköping University, Sweden. I am currently working as the research coordinator at the department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Linköping University Hospital. Prior to that, I held academic positions in the area of Neurological Physiotherapy at University of Iceland (Docent), CQUniversity Australia (Senior Lecturer) and Cyprus (lecturer) for approximately 10 years. I am leading Inter-PEER (the International Project for the Evaluation of “activE Rehabilitation”) - an international collaborative initiative of researchers and consumer/patient organisations that evaluates the effectiveness of Active Rehabilitation (AR) training programs. These residential community rehabilitation programs last 7-10 days and are led by peer mentors as trainers and educators. I have been involved in studying AR programs in Sweden, Poland, Norway and Iceland. I am also leading STRIVE-SCI, Sweden’s first national, prospective, multicentre study providing longitudinal data on SCI rehabilitation trajectories. This four-year project aims to integrate clinical and patient-reported outcomes using a co-design approach, translating findings into targeted interventions.
