Biography
Dr. Alexander Rouse is a Consultant Physician at the National Spinal Injuries Centre, Stoke Mandeville, specialising in both adult and Paediatric Spinal Injuries. He holds qualifications including an Honours BSc in Medical Sciences with Management, MB BS, MRCP London, and a Diploma in Child Health from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
Dr. Rouse has expertise in ventilation, acute care, perioperative medicine, and paediatric rehabilitation. He has made contributions to the field through his clinical practice, research, and teaching, with publications on topics such as war-related spinal cord injuries and clinical early warning scores for spinal cord injury populations.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Rouse is deeply involved in healthcare management and service planning, contributing to several NICE guidelines, the ISCOS Paediatric SIG and leading the London SCI Network.
Mr Wail Ahmed is a Consultant Surgeon and Physician in Spinal Cord Injuries Medicine appointed at the National Spinal Injuries Centre, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, since February 2017. He completed his training in Spinal Cord Injuries and Trauma Rehabilitation in Oxford and Cambridge Deaneries in the UK. He has special interest and expertise in video-urodynamic studies, bladder botox injections and pressure ulcer surgery. He has multiple publications as a first author and also contributed as a co-author of the chapter of “Spinal cord injury rehabilitation” in the first edition of the Oxford Textbook of Neurological Surgery in September 2019.
Dr Oliver Russell is a Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Specialty Registrar currently working at the Oxford Centre for Enablement in the UK. His current research is looking into the development of a new track and trigger system designed for spinal cord injured patients and this is what he will be presenting on.
