Overview

Key design issues for clinical trials and DAG-based cohort studies

Details

This one-day workshop is for clinicians and researchers interested in improving their understanding of causal inference, namely, when and how to determine the effect of an intervention (or exposure) on an outcome. The workshop will focus on key design issues for clinical trials and DAG-based cohort studies. There will be a major focus on careful consideration of the clinical meaning (if any) of correlations and associations, and the dangers of relying on these statistical approaches to imply causation. This discussion will by necessity involve clarification regarding confounders, colliders and mediators. Understanding the principles covered in this workshop is essential for all researchers and clinicians interested in understanding and reading research. This workshop will also provide insights into Editorial decisions about papers submitted to Spinal Cord.
