Experiences of Clean Intermittent Catheterization among Children with Spina Bifida and Their Caregivers in Uganda: a mixed method and pilot study in a low income setting
Biography
Femke Bannink Mbazzi is a clinical and educational psychologist, and cultural anthropologist with over 25 years of research and clinical work experience with children and families with disabilities in Uganda. She is an Associate Professor at the International Centre for Evidence in Disability (ICED) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), based in Uganda, where she heads the Disability Research Group at the MRC/UVRI & LSHTM Uganda Research Unit. This group consists of 22 East African researchers with and without disabilities who develop and implement African disability research. The group also hosts and builds capacity of PhD and MSc students and offers internships for young graduates with disabilities.
Femke is passionate about the participatory development and testing of culturally appropriate health and education interventions with persons with disabilities. She holds a Wellcome Career Development Award focused on making health research inclusive of children and youth with disabilities. She developed a training and mentoring programme for young persons with disabilities, including youth with spina bifida and youth with spinal cord injury. She works together closely with organizations of persons with disabilities, including the Ugandan Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association and Spinal Cord Injuries Association.

Lived Experience and Clinician Perspectives on Post-Flap Surgery Recovery in Spinal Cord Injury/Disorder
Biography
Tim Geraghty is a Rehabilitation Medicine Physician and Senior Staff Specialist in the Queensland Spinal Cord Injuries Service (QSCIS), Department of Rehabilitation, Division of Allied Health and Rehabilitation, Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH), Metro South Health. In April 2024, he left his long-standing position as Medical Chair, Department of Rehabilitation at PAH and commenced in the role of Director of The Hopkins Centre. This is a joint appointment between Metro South Health and Griffith University. He has 25 years’ clinical, management and research experience in spinal cord injury and rehabilitation medicine.
Tim undertakes research across a range of areas including spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury and persistent pain and health, disability and rehabilitation services. His experience includes as a co-investigator on national and international spinal cord injury and acquired brain injury research collaborations involving sleep, physical activity and acute SCI management and mental health and ABI. He is co-author on a national position statement on exercise and SCI.
His recent research focus has included examination of post-discharge rehabilitation trajectories, service access and secondary conditions and their impact on outcomes for people with ABI and SCI. He is a member of the National Steering Committee and Principal Investigator, Australian arm of the International SCI (Aus-InSCI) Community Survey project and PI, Aus-InSCI Translation Project.
He has a keen interest in translation of rehabilitation and disability research into clinical practice improvement and policy reform and in research capacity building in rehabilitation medicine and rehabilitation services with the ultimate aim of improving service provision, outcomes and the lived experience of people with a disability.

Biography
Louise has 30 years of nursing experience with 25 years working in the speciality of Spinal Cord Injury through Royal North Shore Acute Spinal Unit in Sydney, Australia and more recently in private community nursing practice. Louise is a strong advocate for her clients and is committed to improving the quality of life for people living with spinal cord injury. She is passionate about educating her nursing and allied health colleagues to ensure the most up to date practice is provided and she has undertaken PhD studies to ensure that she can continue the advancement of nursing practice in spinal cord injury.

Biography
Jessica Simmons works for Hollister, Incorporated as a Senior Clinical Scientist with the Global Clinical Affairs team.
Experience
She has been a registered nurse since 2006 and a nurse practitioner since 2015. She earned a Doctoral degree in Nursing Practice in 2021 at Purdue University Global, West Lafayette, IN. As a clinician, her background includes Internal Medicine, as well as Wound/Ostomy/Continence, and Hyperbaric Medicine.
In addition to her clinical experience, she is an Adjunct Faculty for the Graduate School of Nursing’s Family Nurse Practitioner program at Purdue University Global. She is a past President of the Wound Ostomy Continence Certification Board.

Natasha Wallace
Community Liaison and Outreach Clinical Nurse Specialist
Natasha qualified as a registered nurse in London and has over 30 years’ experience working at the London Spinal Cord Injury Centre. During her time at the Centre, she has worked in a variety of roles including tissue viability, infection control and discharge planning. In the last 20years she has worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist supporting patients and families following the devasting effect of spinal cord injury. This role includes the long term follow up, ad hoc telephone advice and nurse led follow up clinics, it also incorporates ongoing formal and informal teaching both on site and at linked hospitals. The role also includes working as part of the LSCIC acute outreach team, assessing and supporting newly injured patients and proving education to support patients, families and professionals.
She was an active member of the MASCIP committee, assisting with the delivery of a multidisciplinary study days and supporting policy documents for patients with spinal cord injury.
