ASCoN – Africa International SCI Community Survey

Details

The second wave of the International Spinal Cord Injury (InSCI) Community Survey was successfully conducted between 2022 and 2024, involving more than 15,000 participants from 32 countries across all six WHO regions. InSCI aims to identify the key factors influencing functioning and well-being among people with spinal cord injury (SCI), within the broader context of health systems, policies, services, and societal conditions. This session will explore how the ASCoN members and African regions are building on the findings and collaborations generated through the survey. The ASCoN segment will highlight research collaboration among participating countries, with principal investigators presenting their proposed research topics. The African segment will focus on health system performance, functioning outcomes, and unmet needs among people with SCI. It will also examine how the WHO Package of Interventions for Rehabilitation and the ISCoS SCI Standards Toolkit can support improvements in SCI care and reduce health inequities in resource-constrained settings.
