Australian Consensus on Priority Topics for Translating Spinal Cord Injury Research into Practice: Findings from an e-Delphi Study

Biography

Michaela Filipcikova is a researcher with a background in clinical neuropsychology and completed her PhD at UNSW Sydney in 2023. She is currently a Research Fellow at the Hopkins Centre, a joint initiative between Griffith University and Metro South Health. Michaela works on the Aus‑InSCI Translation Project, which focuses on transforming findings from the Australian arm of the International Spinal Cord Injury Community Survey into practical, meaningful outcomes for people with spinal cord injury in Queensland and across Australia. Her research interests include translation and implementation science, as well as cognition and mental health following spinal cord injury.

Ageing and Secondary Health Condition Domains among Malaysians Living with Spinal Cord Injury: A Path-Informed Analysis Using InSCI Survey

Biography

Dr. Fatimah Ahmedy is a Rehabilitation Physician and Associate Professor at Universiti Malaysia Sabah. She obtained her MBBS from Cardiff University (UK) in 2006 and conferred Master of Rehabilitation Medicine at Universiti Malaya in 2018. Her clinical and academic interests include spinal cord medicine and rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, community-based rehabilitation (CBR), and disability management, with a strong focus on translating rehabilitation principles into real-world community impact. Dr Fatimah currently serves as a member of the Conjoint Board of the Master of Rehabilitation Medicine Malaysia and is also one of the Course Directors for this postgraduate programme. She is an active researcher and author, having published three books with over 50 high-indexed journal articles in the field of rehabilitation and functioning. Her contributions have been recognised nationally and internationally. She is a recipient of the Spinal Research International Grant (ISCOS 2022), the UMS Young Researcher Award 2019 (Science Category), was selected as Malaysia’s finalist for the UK Alumni Award (Science & Sustainability Category) 2021 and received travel grant for LIFE Winter School on Health and Well-being in 2026. Beyond hospital-based rehabilitation medicine, Dr Fatimah is deeply committed to empowering rural communities. She is actively involved in training CBR workers, advancing functioning epidemiology, and developing inclusive strategies to promote employment among persons with disabilities.

Mr Michael Alves is an associate lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. His research interests lie in the epidemiology of and outcomes following spinal cord injury. Currently completing his PhD, this research forms part of the ongoing project to develop a registry for persons with spinal cord injury in South Africa, with plans to expand to low- and middle-income countries globally.
