Biography
Gabi Mueller Verbiest is a movement scientist at Swiss Paraplegic Research in Nottwil, Switzerland. After a master's degree at the Swiss Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), Gabi was awarded her PhD in medical sciences at the Institute of Integrative Physiology at the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands (Prof. Maria Hopman) in 2008. Her thesis covered the topic "Respiration in Spinal Cord Injury: Time-courses and training." After giving birth to her two children, she worked as senior researcher at the Clinical Trial Unit of the Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil, Switzerland for about 12 years. Since 2023 she leads the respiratory research group at Swiss Paraplegic Research and is a lecturer at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Lucerne, Switzerland. Her research area mainly includes prevention of respiratory complications, respiratory therapies, and training after spinal cord injury.
