Unveiling Strength: Progress and Perspectives in Research on Women with Spinal Cord Injury

Biography

Jennifer Coker has worked in the field of SCI since 1997. She obtained an MPH from Emory University and a PhD in Clinical Science from the University of Colorado. She has been at Craig Hospital since 2012 and is the Co-Project Director of the SCI Model Systems and Chair of the Women’s Health SIG. As the Director of SCI and Disability Research and the Texas Model Spinal Cord Injury System, Heather Taylor’s career has been defined by a commitment to advancing the field of SCI research. Her leadership roles have included the former Chair for the SCIMS Women’s Health SIG and the American Congress for Rehabilitation Medicine Women’s Health Task Force. Dr. Taylor’s research has focused on health outcomes, motor recovery and learning, and psychosocial functioning. Chloe Slocum is Assistant Professor and Associate Chair for Quality in the Harvard Medical School Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Director of Health Policy at Spaulding Rehabilitation. Her clinical work centers around optimizing long-term health for individuals with paralysis and her research focuses on assessing high-quality care and systems of health care delivery for individuals with disabilities. Kim Anderson is a Professor in the Department of PM&R in the MetroHealth System and Case Western Reserve University. Her research has focused on obtaining the perspective of people living with SCI on various aspects of research, including functional priorities, acceptable benefits and risks, and engaging people with SCI throughout the research cycle to make research more relevant. Yuying Chen is a Professor and Vice Chair of Research at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of Alabama at Birmingham in the United States. She is a board-certified physiatrist from Taiwan and also an epidemiologist by training. Her research focuses on the longitudinal course of spinal cord injury through large dataset research.
