Biography
Carlotte Kiekens is a Belgian Physical and Rehabilitation (PRM) physician, working in Italy since 2020, after 30 years at University Hospitals Leuven. She was Director of the Spinal Unit at the Montecatone Rehabilitation Institute 2020-2021, and head of the PRM unit at IRCCS MultiMedica in Milan till May 2023. She is currently working as a researcher at the IRCCS Galeazzi-Sant'Ambrogio Hospital, and the Italian Scientific Spine Institute (ISICO), both in Milan. Her main fields of interest are spinal cord injury, and (adult) spina bifida, polytrauma, amputation, ethics in rehabilitation, sexuality and disability, evidence-based practice and health policy and systems research in rehabilitation.
She is the Co-Director of Cochrane Rehabilitation, which she co-founded in 2016. She chairs the ISPRM-WHO Liaison committee, is a member of the European Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine, Senior Fellow of the EBPRM, expert of the UEMS PRM Section and ISCoS Fellow. She is Specialty Co-chief Editor of the Strengthening Rehabilitation in Health Systems section of the Journal Frontiers in Rehabilitation Sciences. She published over 180 PubMed papers and 20 book chapters. From 1999 till 2003, she was vice-president of the Dutch-Flemish Spinal Cord Society (DuFSCoS), and then president till 2007. She was vice-chair of the 53rd ISCOS meeting in Maastricht in 2014. Her Scopus H-index is 29.
