The addition of non-traumatic spinal cord injury to traumatic spinal cord injury national registries: Lessons learned from the United States and Canada

Biography

Dr. Coker has worked in the field of SCI since 1997. She obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in May 2001, where she won the James W. Alley Award for Outstanding Service to Disadvantaged Populations, and a PhD in Clinical Science from the University of Colorado-Anschutz Medical Campus in 2020. She has been at Craig Hospital since 2012 and is the Co-Project Director of the SCI Model Systems and a member of the non-traumatic SCI SIG. Dr Reeves is a Spinal Cord Medicine Associate Professor of PM&R at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is the Chair of the ISCOS Education Committee, and a Member of the ISCOS Board. He has previously served as the Chair of the American Spinal Injury Association Education Committee and Board of Directors. Much of his research and clinical practice is focused on the goal of improving treatment and outcomes for those affected by ntSCI. Dr. Noonan is the Director of Research and Best Practice Implementation at the Praxis Spinal Cord Institute, located in Vancouver, BC Canada. In her role at Praxis, she oversees the Cure and Care Programs. During her doctoral degree, she helped initiate the RHSCIR and is still actively working with sites nationally and internationally to implement and utilize SCI data sets. In addition, Dr. Noonan chairs the International SCI Data Set Committee and the Oversight Committee for the NIH Common Data Elements project. Dr. Chen is a Professor and Vice Chair of Research at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of Alabama at Birmingham in the United States. She is a board-certified physiatrist from Taiwan and also an epidemiologist by training. Her research focuses on the epidemiology and longitudinal course of spinal cord injury through large dataset research.
